Synthesia Hills Kyoto Illumination

Rurikei Onsen Hot Springs Resort is in Nantan, Kyoto 70 minutes away by car from Kyoto City. The illumination is accompanied by sounds and music open year-round consist of 12 different installations, including the Crystal Lake, Aurora Experience, Spiral Light Tunnel from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Rurikei Onsen also allows foreign tourists to enjoy their hot springs wearing swimwear if you’re not comfortable to show your skin and to hide tattoos. Guest can also enjoy glamping (camping while gazing around beautifully glammed-up tent with comfy beds and sofas) at GRAX within within Rurikei Onsen grounds from 46 glamping sites ranging from glamping tents to bungalows to trailer houses.

Miyako Messe

The area in front of  Miyako Messe, an exhibition center has abundance of mesmerizing illuminations. Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design is located within the complex area where you can take a look at some traditional handicrafts made in Kyoto.

Twinkle Joyo

Head to Joyo City Comprehensive Athletic Park “Recreation Zone ”Twinkle Joyo,” to enjoy illumination event including food stalls, mascots, selfie booth and performances to keep you busy. Started as a community project for more than 10 years ago , donated by local companies and organizations to boost visitors to the area. The park will be illuminated from December 1st to the 25th from 5:30 pm to 9 pm daily.

Kyoto Nijo Castle Illuminage

Kyoto’s Nijo Castle illuminates for the first time in 2020 with mesmerizing neon light-ups of historical and cultural vignettes perfect to stroll through and learn about Japanese traditions. The Illuminage is manage by the same group as Osaka’s Castle and Kobe yearly Illumination. Relive the moment at the by getting Illuminage VR as a souvinere that includes Osaka Castle, Kobe and Kyoto Nijo Castle Illuminage.

The theme for the Illumingae of 2020 is Shunkashūtō  four-seasons as the theme and tells important events occurred at Nijo-jo Castle by expressing  through illumination, flower arrangement work created by IKENOBOYS and cute maiko neon which was made with direction of Shinji Osugi.

Nijo Castle Illuminage runs from December 14, 2020 to February 21, 2021 from 5:30 pm to 10 pm and closed temporarily between December 29 to 31.

Kyoto Station

Kyoto Station has one of the most popular displays in the city. theme is Light of Hope for the Future and will runs from November 13, 2020 to March 27, 2021 from 5 pm to 10 pm.

One of the highlights of Kyoto Station Building is the famed “big stairs”, with 171 steps studded with about 15,000 LEDs becoming a musical and light show while twinkling lights.

Arashiyama Hanatoro

Arashiyama famous for its Bamboo Forest that The Ministry of the Environment considers it a part of the soundscape of Japan. Imagine enjoying the sound and lights in the naturall bamboo forest together?

Arashiyama Hantoro which means “Flower and Light Road”, is an event that takes place at night of Arashiyama illuminated by thousands of lanterns. From the infamous Togetsukyo Bridge and the Bamboo forest, both glows beautifully in a calming traditional manner. The illuminations start at 5:00pm and last until 8:30pm.
